Director of Development

Job description:

At VentureLab our vision is to be the global leader in youth entrepreneurship education and our mission is to create the next generation of innovators by making world-class entrepreneurship education accessible to kids worldwide, especially underrepresented youth and girls in particular. The Director of Development will oversee development and fundraising strategy for VentureLab. This position will create and implement a fundraising plan to advance the organizational goals and connect potential major donors, foundations, and corporations with opportunities to advance VentureLab both nationally and internationally.

VentureLab has an annual budget of $850K and we are looking to grow our annual budget to over $1 million in 2022. The position offers a unique opportunity for a creative, self-starter to advance the mission of youth entrepreneurship at VentureLab, and help take our development and stewardship to the next level.

Advancement and Fundraising

• Develop national partnerships to help advance VentureLab’s national strategic plan
• Help grow a culture of philanthropy among VentureLab’s friends and network, shaping the messaging for compelling fundraising appeals and solicitations
• Oversee CFGI (Corporate, Foundation, Government, and Individual) fundraising efforts for the organization
• Maintain a portfolio of 100+ major donors with an emphasis on 5-figure gifts or greater, in support of VentureLab’s programs and strategic plan goals
• Generate development materials such as proposals and case statements
• Update and individualize solicitation materials (proposals, slide decks, etc.) for a well-articulated case for support
• Engage in qualification, strategy, and relationship building to close major gift(s) of $25,000+
• Work with the Board Members, Advisory Board Members, and key supporters to actively engage new prospects and donors and exceed annual fundraising goals
• Connect donors and potential donors with opportunities to advance VentureLab nationally and internationally
• Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop a digital fundraising strategy
• Represent VentureLab at community and national events, convenings, and major events virtually and in-person when possible

Stewardship and Tracking

• Create and implement a stewardship plan to ensure best practices for accuracy in processing and tracking gifts, as well as gift acknowledgement, donor records, donor recognition, and reports
• Build and maintain relationships with existing donors and sponsors
• Maintain up-to-date donor records in CRM
• Thank, receipt, and track donations
• Plan cultivation and stewardship visits and events to connect with major donors throughout the year in partnership with Executive Director

Reporting Impact

• Work with program team to collect and report impact numbers
• Work with grant writer to develop customized quarterly reports to major donors
• Furnish the board with regular progress reports.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 10 years+ fundraising or business development experience
• Demonstrated success with raising 5+-figure gifts and exceeding contributed income goals in a competitive fundraising environment
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Airtable or similar fundraising database
• Strong communication skills; articulate, conceptual and persuasive
• Excellent written communication skills
• Proficient with sponsorship solicitation
• Proficient with MS Office applications and CRMs
• Proficient with social media platforms
• Excellent understanding of best practices
• Ability to work independently
• Available to travel, work weekends and evenings

• Knowledge of entrepreneurship a plus
